I’d like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the warm hospitality shown to Gangwon delegation visiting Hyderabad to discuss about the economic cooperation between Gangwon and Andhra Pradesh and to attend BioAsia 2013. The visit allowed an opportunity to reaffirm that both regions shared vision for economic development by promoting high-tech industry and concrete will for mutual cooperation. Moreover, a platform for future collaboration in Bio-Industry was established by signing MoU between APIIC and Gangwon Techno Park. Our entrepreneurs are also prospecting productive outcome from networking activities held in BioAsia 2013.

Dr. Reddy’s is very happy to be the co-host of the event. The pharmaceutical industry that I represent has done great service to not only the country but to the world particularly in making drugs affordable. And I am happy to state that the API revolution began in Andhra Pradesh which has mushroomed ever since as a result of which India has become the leading exporter of APIs, leading supplier of generics to the world and is also helping other countries around the world in bringing down their healthcare costs. The pharmaceutical industry has been a shining example of success in the country and I am happy that events like BioAsia that bring together academicians, industry, regulators to debate on important topics, strengthen the industry overall, strengthen the city, strengthen the economy and in a long term the impact on the economy is tremendous and that is why we are very happy to have supported the event and thank you for giving us this opportunity.

BioAsia over the years has been instrumental in showcasing the Lifesciences and R&D strengths of Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh to the world particularly the presence of Genome Valley – the largest industrial cluster in country. India is an excellent destination for Biotech/Biopharma industries particularly Hyderabad, which has a strong base of pharma and biotech, specially vaccines. Almost 70% of the vaccine production in India is supplied from Hyderabad and this explains the focus of BioAsia on elements like policy, strategy and markets.
